Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton - Johannesburg

We recently had a fantastic stay at the southern, where every detail was taken care of. from the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the friendly valet and attentive staff. our spacious room was perfect for relaxing, and the food was delicious. we appreciated the little extras, like the customizable breakfast and prompt service from the staff, which made us feel right at home. it is our happy place, and we’re excited to return.

Well-maintained and well-appointed place, competent staff from the porter to the waiters. Excellent, wonderful location in Johannesburg, very close to Johannesburg and surrounds, the biggest shopping centers for ease of shopping and a gym for daily body exercise and a grocery store in the basement level and a number of restaurants scattered throughout the facility. Plus, 15 minutes drive from a superb gallery.

Internet was terrible.

During my brief stay at Southern Sun Hyde Park Hotel, I appreciated the hotel's strategic location, being just 30 km from O.R. Tambo International Airport and a mere 3.8 km from Gau Sandton, making my transit seamless. The amazing pool deck provided lovely views that allowed for a relaxing ambiance after a hectic day of travel.

I noticed that the quality of service at the restaurant could be improved, as my dining experience was slightly lacking in attention.

Special stay, as always. Nicely appointed place to stay 1 mile away from The Wanderers Golf Club. Top-class and en suite room with an unbelievable view from the window...

Superb breakfast buffet!

The stay was a short getaway, and I was impressed by how conveniently located it was, making it easy to explore nearby attractions like Hyde Park Corner and the Sandton Convention Center. The superior room I had offered stunning views of the city at night, which was a highlight of my stay. I also enjoyed the breakfast selection, especially the pancake machine! the key cards were a bit troublesome, often requiring multiple swipes to work, which was frustrating.

During my recent business trip to Johannesburg, our director chose the Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton, and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. I was welcomed like an old friend, which set a positive tone for my stay. The staff, many of whom have been there for years, are genuinely friendly and professional. My room was tastefully decorated, featuring a luxurious and spacious bathroom that made unwinding after a long day a delight. the hotel's breakfast spread was impressive, offering an array of options that catered to all tastes. I felt at home here, and the gentle ambiance of the hotel made my business trip much more enjoyable.

Housekeeping occasionally missed a few items.

Would definitely recommend for a weekend stopover

Friendly staff, convenient location, and a well-maintained outdoor swimming pool made my stay enjoyable, with close access to a shopping mall that was a great bonus for quick shopping trips.

Everything was good.

The rooftop bar had a great whisky selection and the food was great. We loved exploring the nearby Hyde Park Shopping Centre and enjoyed some fun at the pool area. Service was friendly and they made breakfast to order, a cool bonus.

One downside was that the hotel felt a bit dated, noticeable in the room amenities. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but worth mentioning .

Despite the good dining experiences, the firm beds caused me some serious lower back pain, tough to shake off. The breakfast choices were repetitive over my four-day stay. Seeing the same sausages and beans every morning got old fast. The bar's smoky atmosphere drifted into other areas, impacting the overall freshness of the space, and I found it difficult to enjoy the pool area given the number of outside visitors occupying the sunbeds and the presence of cigar smoke around the children.

Unfortunately, the room I was assigned overlooked the pool area where loud music from the bar disrupted the peace. The amenities were a bit worn, with non-functioning elements like the TV and phone, which detracted from the luxury experience I expected. The breakfast buffet was merely adequate, with no standout dishes compared to past visits, and the overall feel of the hotel seemed to be aging slightly.
